Ottobre projects in progress

This afternoon I took the time to cut out three of my Ottobre projects: the Concerto dress, the cardigan and the skirt. The cardigan will be in black sweatshirt fabric. The skirt will be made of some stretchy pinstriped dark blue denim, quite lightweight actually for a denim.

For the Concerto dress I took some terrible polyester stretch fabric. It's patterned in blue and white with tulips. I got it very cheap at one of the local charity shops. It's sort of cute, but the quality of the fabric is awful. Well, I consider it a muslin, and if it's wearable that's OK, but not a must. Ihave sewn most of it, I only have to adjust the hem and finish the armscyes. I'll take some pictures and show you. The dress is pretty, but, as mentioned, the fabric is horrible.

Bye for now,

Johanna

Exciting non-sewing related news...

I just want to jump up and down and clap my hands about this. But you have to step over to my other blog to read the news, since it's not sewing related.

Good night,

Magazine inspiration - Ottobre

I've been looking like crazy for the latest issue of Swedish sewing magazine Sömnadsmagasinet. I've been to eight (!) places where they should sell it, and they don't have it. I was supposed to get to the stores last Tuseday and I've been looking for it since last Monday without results. Is it sold out? Didn't it reach the stores at all? What has happened? I'm totally lost...

Well, I didn't want to go home empty-handed, so I decided to give the magazine Ottobre Design a shot. And I liked it A LOT! Right now I'm taking a break from tracing patterns to write this post, because I've already decided to make four (!) of their designs. I've traced three and have one more to do. But it is possible I will make even more of the design, because they look really great and comfortable.

Here are all the designs from the lastest issue:

Here are pictures of the ones I'm tracing now:

I also like this design a lot:

Don't they look great?! I thought I'd use fabric from my stash for the dresses and the skirt. But I will buy some black sweatshirt fabric for the cardi. I've already seen some at one of my local fabric stores.

So, I was totally inspired by this magazine and I will definately get the next issue in March.... (Yep, it only comes twice a year...) I hope that someone else will find inspiration in this great magazine too.

Bye for now,

Johanna

PS I've actually finished a pair of trousers, the navy blue ones, but I'm working on getting some pictures of them. So I will be back with a Finished Object post soon!

Long time, no post...

It's been a while since I posted here, but I've been stuck in Undecidedville for a very long time. I just haven't been able to decide on where to go next, Trousertown, Top village or Dressfield... :)

I've felt like making trousers for a while, but I didn't have any good fabric at home. Yesterday, I went to one of the local fabric stores, where I haven't been for a while, and I found a black stretchy fabric that felt nice and which seemed like it would be good to use for trousers. I bought 2 metres and also 2 metres of some navy cotton fabric that also seemed good for trousers, so now I'm going to make two pair of tousers! Now I only have to decide on what model to make. I'm thinking some wider, sailor-inspired model for the blue fabric and a skinnier version for the black fabric. I'm looking through all my sewing magazines to find suitable patterns. Or does anyone have a pattern recommendation?

While at the fabric store I found another fabric that I just couldn't resist. Let me show you....

This fabric would be great for a short jacket and a skirt, sort of a suit, buuuuut..... Since I wouldn't wear that, it's no use, so I'm thinking a Spencer-dress, like this one from Burda style:

On Burdastyle this dress is labelled as an "A-line jumper"... ? Ok....

Well, anyway, those are my plans for now, let's see if I follow them or not... I'm great at making plans, but not always so good to follow them. :)

I'll be back soon, I hope! Bye for now,

Johanna
