No, I don't have to shave my legs... - Or - Finally a wearable muslin!

Ok, here's my big secret, well not to people who see me IRL, because it's kind of obvious to them, but on the internet you can choose what you show and not, and I haven't been showing my head in pics because... (here we go)... I don't have any hair. Any, at all, anywhere....It's called Alopecia Universalis, the condition I have. If you want to know more about Alopecia, like there are three kinds, google it for information. So, no, I don't have to shave my legs ever. But I would be glad to do it twice a day if I could get my hair back. You feel kind of freaky without hair.

Well, instead of hair, I need something else to keep my head warm, because it's darn cold without it. I have a wig, but it itches, so I don't like it that much. Instead I ordered some headwear from Christine Headwear and they have been great.

Here's the one I have in silk/cotton.

I have three so far, but today I felt that I should find out how they're made, so that maybe I could make something similar myself. So I did, and here's the result, not bad, right?!

I was really sloppy making it, not finishing the seams properly and so on. But it looks great and it was just meant to be a muslin, which is totally wearable. Yay! The fabric is viscose I think, and I actually bought it a quite a while ago to try and make a scarf like this.

Well, bye for now,

Johanna

  1. Your scarves are lovely :) It looks great at the back as well, you'll be able to make them to match all your outfits :)

If you have any silk scarves they look pretty good folded in half then tied at the back with a hair elastic. Then twist the two ends around the knot where the elastic is. If you then put another elastic on it just kind of looks like a bun. Does that make sense? Anyway, you've probably already tried it but I never thought to do it until I saw a lady in a coffee shop with hers like that- then I just copied her :)

    1. Thank you so much! A very good tip indeed, I read about it from someone elsse online and tried, but it's just not for me. I get annoyed by the bun and the scarf just slides up or down my forehead. It looks SO pretty though and I wish I could wear it like that, but the headscarves I have are a good compromise.

  2. You are stunning and I am a little bit jealous of the no leg shaving thing, such a chore. I always tie my hair up out the way as it annoys me, but I can understand it must be tough feeling different. I love little quirks about people, I never wear makeup as I hate the constant battle woman have to look better than they think they are. Thanks for sharing your secret, the head scarfs look so lovely on you. xx

    1. Thank you! that's so nice of you. I have to admit that not having to shave my legs (or armpits) is one of the uppsides to this situation, and I do try to focus on the positives. I used to tie up my hair too and that's one of the reasons I don't get along with my wig, just a lot of little hairs keep getting in my face. I also didn't use that much make up before, but now I have to, because I look really bland without it. I actually have tattooed eyebrows and eyeliner, since I don't have lashes or brows (or nose hair)...

  3. I like the head scarves too! I remember learning about this type of Alopecia in Cosmetology school. I had an ex boyfriend years ago that had this happen, he felt so weird...it'd be nice not to have nose hair! I hate mine! Does your little one have auburn hair? You saw my pics...I do too...neither of my children do though!
